Bear spray deployed during home invasion forces apartment evacuation

Two suspects have been arrested after they attempted to forcibly enter an apartment on Wentworth Street in Oshawa, but were met with a can of bear mace and forced to flee.

On Saturday, July 8, 2017, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from Central East Division were called to an apartment on Wentworth Street East. The victim was in the residence when three male suspects tried to gain access. During the altercation bear spray was deployed at the three suspects by the resident. The suspects fled on foot and two males were later arrested.

Numerous tenants in the apartment building were evacuated until the hallways were ventilated by the Oshawa Fire Department. Several parties were affected by the spray, but no one sustained any injuries.

A 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both from Oshawa, were charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. They were both released on a promise to appear.

Police continue to look for the third suspect, a 17-year-old male from Oshawa.
