Oshawa Power is the first electrical utility to execute layoffs. It’s disappointing to hear OPUC has laid off seven of its full-time union staff. During the last three months these employees were deemed essential workers. They put themselves and their families in harms way. Now they’re no longer needed to keep our lights on?
It wasn’t that long ago during a severe ice storm politicians couldn’t thank these workers enough for risking their own wellbeing to get our lights back on. They didn’t have to go out in the middle of the night. They could have waited until morning. No, they did their jobs. Why? They cared about the families who were without heat and lights. They didn’t leave us in the cold and dark.
I think we can do better by keeping these workers employed. What a better way to say thanks for a job well done.
