Putting my money where my mouth is

Dear Editor,

In an attempt to alleviate the financial hardship that many seniors are experiencing because of the pandemic, the federal government recently announced the following one-time tax free payments for seniors: those in receipt of the CPP, OAS and the GIS will receive $500, while those in receipt of the CPP and the OAS, will receive $300. I seriously question the wisdom of giving $300 to all seniors regardless of their financial situation, but that is not why I am writing this letter. I would like to pocket the $300 I am about to receive and can find any number of reasons for doing so. But instead, I shall put my $300 where my mouth is and contribute to an organization on the frontlines struggling to make Canada a healthier, fairer and better place to live. What about you?
