Lords’ basketball teams hit the court October 22

The Durham Lords are excited to unveil their men and women’s basketball schedules for the upcoming 2017-18 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season.

The men’s side will open up their regular season at home against the Canadore Panthers, who the Lords have won 18 or 29 all-time meetings against, on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Durham will look to build on a two-game winning streak dating back to November 2016.

Durham’s women’s team will kick off the regular season at home on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. against the Centennial Colts. The Lords have won all three of their last three meetings against the Colts.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season,” says Lords women’s basketball head coach Heather LaFontaine.

The women’s squad will have six returning players from last year to add some veteran leadership and experience to the group.

“As well we have some new faces that should be able to contribute coming out of the blocks,” says LaFontaine. “The coaching staff anticipates a good season ahead.”

The men’s team will begin with an exhibition game at home on Tuesday, Oct. 10 against Niagara College, followed by the David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament from Oct. 13 and 14. In December, they will head south of the border to New York to participate in the Genesee Community College Christmas Classic.

The Mohawk Tournament, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, is where the women will get ready for the season. This comes along with a preseason game before the tournament at Sheridan College and one at home in the Oct. 10 doubleheader against Niagara.

The OCAA championship takes place in February, with the women at Humber College in Etobicoke and the men at Niagara College in Welland.
