The UOIT women’s soccer program is excited to announce the signing of three new recruits – Julia Listro, Morgan Wilson and Alexis Kirton.
Listro of Toronto currently plays full back and winger at GS United in Scarborough. UOIT Ridgebacks women’s soccer head coach Peyvand Mossavat has coached her on the provincial team in the past.
“I look forward to playing with friends of mine and being coached by Peyvand,” says Listro. “He is very motivating, a great coach and gives great advice on how to improve as a player.”
On her high school graduation day, Wilson of Ajax committed to the UOIT women’s soccer program.
“It is a very eventful day, I’m very excited and I’ll ever forget this day,” says Wilson.
Coming to Oshawa, Wilson will be studying criminology – a four-year program in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
“UOIT is a great school with a great criminology program,” says Wilson. “The girls are really nice and the coach is amazing so I’m really excited to get started.”
As a winger, Wilson spends a lot of time at both ends of the field but says that fans should expect a very defensive style of play from her.
Alexis Kirton has signed her letter of intent and joins GS United teammate Listro with the Ridgebacks.
“It was a really exciting day,” says Kirton. “I’m really proud of myself for graduating high school and now being able to continue my studies here at UOIT.”
The centre-back was a part of the 2016 GS United club that won their record fourth-consecutive Ontario Cup title.
With the addition of Kirton to the women’s soccer program, she brings some sought after on-field characteristics.
“I am very motivated and I talk a lot, so I’ll bring strong leadership to the team,” says Kirton.
The recruits will continue to train throughout the summer for the 2017 OUA season. The Ridgebacks’ first exhibition game is at York University on Thursday, Aug. 17.
