To celebrate International Dance Day, the City of Oshawa is presenting its first Together We Dance event, a dance production showcasing the diversity of Oshawa’s talent.
“This is a launch of something new and we’re really excited about it because bringing this many dance groups together has not happened before at a City of Oshawa event,” says Catherine Richards, manager of culture and centralized recreation services for the City of Oshawa.
The showcase aims to highlight dancing’s creative, expressive and technical capacities and advocate for the art form.
“We’ve got such a beautiful mix of different types of participating artists and dancers coming out… I think it really just reflects such a rich wealth of talent and culture for us here in Oshawa,” says Richards.
The event takes place April 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Memorial Park Bandshell. In the event of rain or snow, the showcase will be held in the auditorium of the Arts Resources Centre.
Participating groups include City of Oshawa Dance Programs, Chandrasegara Dance Academy, Kalavriksha Dance Centre, Loreley Youth Dancers, Maxwell Heights Secondary School, Riddim Fitness Inc., Bisland Dance Centre Inc., The Humming Bird Dancers of Club Carib of Oshawa Inc., The Odessa Ukrainian Dancers and Oshawa Senior Citizen Centre- Line 4 Dance Level.
“I think it’s just a really incredible mix of different types of cultures coming together and showcasing their performers… showcasing the talent here and showcasing the richness that is here and sharing that with the community,” says Richards.
