Three OCNA Better Newspaper nominations for The Oshawa Express

The Oshawa Express is honoured to receive three nominations in the Ontario Community Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Awards competition.

The feature “The Cost of Ethanol”, which ran in the Nov. 29, 2017 edition of The Express, has been nominated for the Environment Ontario Award.

The story looked at the chain of events leading to the Oshawa Port Authority being on the hook for a $4.1 million arbitration award to FarmTech over the failed ethanol plant.

“Modern-day Slavery,” a four-part Fourth Estate expose into the state of human trafficking in Durham Region has been nominated in the category of Best Feature/News Circulation for a circulation over 10,000.

The in-depth investigational piece ran in The Express throughout the month of September 2018.

The final nomination is in the category of In House Promotion for The Express’ promotional video which airs at Landmark Cinemas.

The video was created by graphic designer Courtney Bachar in September 2018.

The awards will be handed out at a gala event on Friday, April 5 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Vaughan.
