Sword-wielding robber arrested
Durham police have made an arrest after a man was assaulted with a sword and robbed.
On Tuesday, June 5 at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to a call in the area of Harmony Road North and Taunton Road East for a robbery. A 32-year-old Oshawa man had been attacked by a suspect known to him in his house. The suspect is alleged to have punched the victim, pushed him down a set of stairs, struck him with a sword and hit him on the head with a metal statue. Police say the suspect stole the victim’s cash and cellphone before continuing the assault. The victim was able to escape through a basement window to call police.
When the suspect was later arrested, he was found to be in possession of drugs.
The victim was taken to hospital for his injuries.
A 32-year-old male of Harmony Road North has been charged with robbery, assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and driving while under suspension.
