The Durham Regional Police has completed its third week of the Festive RIDE program, stopping more than 1,200 vehicles and charging 19 drivers with drinking and driving offences including one driver who failed to stop for officers.

On Nov. 30 at approximately 10 p.m., officers from the Festive RIDE unit were set up stopping vehicles to check drivers on Liberty Street and Baseline Road East in Bowmanville.

A southbound Ford SUV approached the line and when officers attempted to stop the vehicle to speak to the driver, the driver accelerated, bouncing off the curb and almost striking several officers.  The vehicle was stopped shortly after on Highway 401 by RIDE officers and arrested.

A 43-year-old female of Shanagarry Drive in Ennismore was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. She was released on a Promise to Appear.
