Oshawa man arrested following Whitby bank robbery

An Oshawa man is in custody while police continue to search for an accomplice after the two men robbed a downtown Whitby bank.

On Jan. 11, at approximately 11:05 a.m., two suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the Scotiabank located at Dundas Street and King Street in Whitby and demanded cash. The suspects administered a noxious substance in the bank prior to fleeing the scene.  Employees and customers were in the store and suffered minor injuries from the unknown irritant. They were treated at the scene.

One of the suspects was arrested by members of Central West Division as he was located fleeing the scene. Robbery investigators are still looking to identify the second suspect.

A 19-year-old male of Simcoe Street North in Oshawa, is charged with robbery with a weapon; disguise with intent; administering a noxious substance and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace. He was held for a bail hearing.

The outstanding suspect is described as a male, 5’8” to 5’10” tall, wearing a black jacket with grey sleeves, black hooded sweater, black pants and black shoes.
