Officer hurt during arrest; man arrested over thefts, assault

A police officer was taken to the hospital as a result of an injury sustained during an arrest.

On Tuesday, May 12 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Durham police were at a Brock Street East residence in Oshawa for an investigation into stolen property. Police say the suspect answered the door and denied any involvement. However, an officer spotted the stolen property inside and placed him under arrest.

According to a news release from Durham police, the suspect resisted and slammed the door on the officer, leaving the officer’s arm badly cut by the broken glass in the door. Another officer rushed him to hospital.

A 53-year-old male of Brock Street East has been charged with theft under $5,000, aggravated assault and assault to resist arrest.
