Meat thieves arrested twice in one night
Two Toronto men were arrested twice after stealing meat and then failing to comply with a condition of release.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Monday, July 13, police were called to the Real Canadian Superstore on Gibb Street after two suspects fled the store with a shopping cart filled with meat. An employee of the grocery store followed them, causing one suspect to leave the meat behind and get into a U-Haul truck that later left the scene. The second suspect escaped on foot.
Both male suspects were located and arrested shortly after.
The value of the meal recovered was approximately $1,800. In the U-Haul truck, officers also found more than $200 in stolen merchandise from Lowes and $3,311 in stolen merchandise from Wal-Mart.
Both men were charged with theft and released with conditions, including not associating with one another.
However, a few hours later at 1 a.m., the two suspects were found walking together at Bond Street West and Park Road North. Both men were then arrested once again.
A 52-year-old male of Ellsworth Avenue in Toronto and a 47-year-old male of Eastdale Avenue in Toronto have each been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and breach of an undertaking.
The 52-year-old male was also charged with driving under suspension.
