Both Oshawa beaches now open

Both Lakeview Beach East and Lakeview Beach West are now open to the public.

After being closed for most of the summer due to dangerous conditions, Lakeview Beach West has been opened after Durham Region Health Department staff were able to test for the first time this summer.

The latest round of beach water testing was released on July 25.

The health department reminds the public not to swim in beach water for at least 48 hours after heavy rainfall, as bacteria levels can increase due to run-off.

The Public Health Ontario Laboratory in Peterborough provides analysis of all water samples submitted for testing.

Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

Test results indicated that one beach in Durham Region was deemed unsafe for public use.

Beaverton South Beach in Brock has been posted as unsafe due to elevated levels of E. coli.
