Oshawa Generals defencemen Mitchell Brewer and forward Nick Wong have been invited to participate in Hockey Canada’s Summer U-18 Team Selection Camp. The final roster will compete in August at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Brewer was the Generals first overall pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. He had two goals and six assists in his rookie campaign with the Generals. At the Generals annual awards ceremony, Brewer was awarded the Community Service Award.
Wong was drafted by the Generals in the second round, 38th overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection. In his rookie season, Wong tallied 17 goals and nine assists for 26 points in 63 games played.
The duo shared the Generals Rookie of the Year Award honour for the 2017-18 season.
Both players have suited up for Hockey Canada in the past at the U-17 Hockey Challenge. Brewer took the ice with Team Canada White, and Wong brought home a silver medal with Team Canada Red.
“This demonstrates that Hockey Canada watches how these players progress. Both players had good U17 tournaments and both are coming off great rookie seasons in the OHL” said Oshawa vice-president and general manager Roger Hunt. “Once again, we are thrilled to have two Oshawa Generals attending the selection camp with Hockey Canada.”
The newly named Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be co-hosted in Edmonton and Red Deer from Aug. 6 to Aug. 11.
