Solidarity over fear

Dear Editor,

The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly demonstrated that this virus knows no borders. Oxfam Canada recently released a report stating that by the end of 2020, 12,000 people per day could die from hunger linked to COVID-19. This is exactly why Canada must invest at least one per cent in new and additional aid towards a global equitable response that makes sure we leave no one behind. The best way to protect the health of Canadians is to advance the wellbeing of all citizens, everywhere, regardless of location. We won’t end COVID-19 in Canada until we end it globally, if we have learned anything from previous pandemics it is that we must come together in solidarity rather than contribute to fear, racism, and inequity.
