Regional chair diagnosed with cancer

Will continue to attend council and committee meetings while undergoing treatment

Roger AndersonRoger Anderson, Durham’s regional chair, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

In a news release, the long-time head of the Region of Durham announced that he had informed regional council that he had been diagnosed and that he would begin treatment.

Anderson states that during treatment, he plans to continue working and attending council and committee meetings, but will not attend as many public events.

Anderson was first appointed to the position of regional chair in 1997, and has held it ever since. The 2014 municipal elections marked the first time that the regional chair slot was up for vote, and saw Anderson maintain his spot.
