The Durham College women’s volleyball team had a strong start, but after faltering in the third and fourth sets had to come from behind to defeat the Mohawk Mountaineers 3-2 on Sept. 28.
The exhibition match started with a 25-19 win by the Lords, followed by Durham taking the second set 25-15.
With both teams rolling their lineups, as it was preseason play, the Mountaineers took the third 25-17. That said, they carried their momentum forward to take the fourth set 25-21.
Mohawk continued to control the match as the two teams changed sides with Durham down 8-2. That deficit didn’t stop the Lords from digging deep to come back and take the set 15-13 and match 3-2.
Allison Marshall led the offence for Durham with 17 kills, while Shannon Dean added five kills, four aces and six blocks. Megan Romain ran the offence for much of the match with 26 assists.
The Lords preseason will continue in two weeks when they travel to the Sheridan Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14.
