Man killed in single-vehicle collision

An Orono man is dead following a car crash on Canada Day.

Police were called to Colonel Sam Drive, east of Farewell Street, at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Friday, July 1 for a single-vehicle collision. According to witnesses on scene, a sedan left one of the businesses on Colonel Sam Drive and headed north – as the street curved to the west, the car failed to go around the curve and left the road, hitting a tree.

The victim, a 22-year-old male from Orono, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 20-year-old male, was extracted from the vehicle and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
