Whitby council has named who will be replacing Lorne Coe at town and regional councils.
Derrick Gleed, the councillor for Whitby’s north ward, will take over Coe’s regional councillor seat. The seat was vacated last month when Coe, running for the Progressive Conservative Party, was victorious in the Whitby-Oshawa provincial byelection.
Gleed has been a councillor in Whitby since 2013, when he was appointed to replace Tracy Hanson, who left the position to become the CEO of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce.
Whitby council has not yet announced whether Gleed’s ward council seat will be filled by appointment or in an election.
