Bank robber caught

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a number of armed bank robberies across southern Ontario, including one in Oshawa.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, an RBC bank on King Street East in Bowmanville was robbed by a male who said he was armed. The suspect fled the scene with cash. The DRPS Robbery Unit sent out an alert to neighbouring jurisdictions and, following another robbery at an RBC in Cobourg, Quinte West OPP officer arrested a suspect at a rest stop on Highway 401.

The two Dec. 16 bank robberies were the latest in a series of heists dating back to a robbery at the National Bank in Kingston on Aug. 25. There are eight robberies in total connected to the suspect, including the Oct. 15 robbery of an Oshawa RBC.

A 30-year-old male of Rue De Huard in Gatineau, Quebec, is facing eight charges of armed robbery.
