Autofest cars come out on top

Mike Livia’s 1936 Ford pickup, nicknamed Copperhead, was crowned the winner of Vintage Auto Insurance’s 2015 tournament. The car, along with its co-finalist, a 1941 Chevrolet half-ton pickup, was discovered at Autofest. Vintage Auto Insurance will return to this year’s event to find more cars for the 2016 tourney.
Earlier this year, the public finally had a chance to vote in Vintage Auto Insurance’s 2015 Championship to find the top vintage car around.
And when the choices were whittled down to the final two, both cars, a 1936 Ford pickup and a 1941 Chevrolet half-ton pickup, had something in common – they were both discovered at Oshawa’s own Autofest.
So those planning to bring their classic and custom cars to this year’s event – this could be your year.
“What we’re doing this yearr is picking four cars at Autofest – two each day,” Jason Wilson, the manager of Vintage Auto Insurance, tells The Oshawa Express.
“We will pick 16 cars in total this year. It’s a bit of a long haul, slow burn. We picked our first two at Golden Beach resorts, and we will pick 14 more at the six car shows we partner with.”
Those who are unable to attend Autofest need not worry – there is still a chance to enter this year’s tournament. Starting July 4, gearheads can submit their vehicles online as part of the tournament’s wildcard draw.
Whether it be wildcard or an officially selected vehicle, Wilson says the tournament is a good stepping stone for those wanting to show their hard work to the world.
“In the last tournament, we had one million views. In a good way, it got out of hand. In fact, the country with the third highest amount of votes was Brazil. It’s kind of unbelievable the way it’s gone,” he says.
“One of our qualifiers from the first year was invited out to (the SEMA show in Las Vegas) twice. We had Pebble Beach (Concours d’Elegance) contact us for contact info for a couple of contestants. It gets their name out there. Really, it’s just another reason to go to Autofest.”
