Woman dies in Oshawa fire

An elderly woman perished in a fire at a north Oshawa apartment on Sunday evening.

Oshawa Fire Service received a call of smoke coming from the apartment at 119 Nonquon Road near Taunton Road at around 7 p.m.

According to police, firefighters found the woman in a bedroom without vital signs.

She was later transported to hospital in a life-threatening state and was pronounced dead.

Police consider the fire suspicious and continue to investigate.
