Spikes and bumps in support of Grandview
Canlan Ice Sports hosting beach volleyball tournament
By Dave Flaherty/The Oshawa Express
It may be slightly ironic that a business with the word “ice” in its name would host a beach volleyball tournament.
But that is exactly what Canlan Ice Sports in Oshawa is doing on Sunday, Aug. 11 in support of Grandview Kids Believe Campaign.
Canlan Ice Sports Oshawa is a leader in operating hockey, ringette, soccer and skating facilities.
However, what is unique about the city’s location is the six beach volleyball courts it boasts.
Lauren MacKenzie of Canlan says they have eight teams for the tournament so far.
“I have six courts and all day to run the tournament, so 24 teams would be ideal,” MacKenzie says.
The tournament will feature co-ed rep play, which means six players to a team, with a minimum of two women on each team.
Registration is $200 per team, and the tournament is for players 18 and up.
All funds from registrations will go to support Grandview Kids.
“This is the first year… we’ll just be happy to get anything we can,” MacKenzie says.
To register call the Canlan office at 905-725-6951. For more information contact MacKenzie at ext. 223 or lmackenzie@icesports.com.
