School board elects new executive

Trustees of the Durham District School Board have elected officers for the 2019-2020 school year.

Pickering trustee Chris Braney will serve as chair of the board for the remainder of the term.

Braney was first elected as a trustee in 1994 with the Scarborough Board of Education.

He was once again elected in 2006, this time in Pickering, previously serving as DDSB vice-chair from 2013 to 2014, and again in 2017.

Joining him are Whitby trustee Niki Lundquist as vice-chair, Whitby trustee Christine Thatcher as vice-chair of standing committees, Oshawa trustee Darlene Forbes as chair of the education finance committee, and Ajax trustee Donna Edwards as the board’s representative on the Ontario Public School Board Association.

Braney takes over for Michael Barrett, who served as board chair from 2015 to 2019.

“Education is the cornerstone of a forward-thinking society,” Braney said in a media release. “Here at the Durham District School Board, we will continue to focus on the success of our staff and students.”
