Robbing ATMs for nearly two years

An Oshawa man is facing charges in connection with several break and enters throughout Durham Region over the past two years.

Police say the suspect hit commercial properties as far back as July 2013, and would either steal or force open ATMs. The total loss from the ATMs is estimated to be approximately $50,000.

Police say the suspect hit several locations in Oshawa, including the Legends Centre, Coffee Time on Bloor Street East, East Side Mario’s on Harmony Road North, Forever Fresh Coffee and Donuts on Wilson Road South, Wild Wing on Ritson Road North and the Rainbow Restaurant on Simcoe Street North.

Police arrested the suspect on March 24 and recovered a safe stolen from a Whitby church, a stolen Tim Horton’s charity donation box and an ATM cash drawer.

A 33-year-old male of Macauley Street is facing 12 counts of break and enter.

Police are continuing to investigate to see if other suspects were involved.
