Regional Chair’s Classic raises $280,000

Funds helping students in financial need, child and youth programs at Ontario Shores

A Durham Region tradition started by the late-Roger Anderson once again was an outstanding success this year.

More than 200 golfers came together for the 22nd annual Regional Chair’s Classic at Deer Creek Golf and Country Club.

The tournament is one of the region’s most popular fundraising events.

This year $280,000 was raised to support students in financial need at Durham College and Ontario Tech University, as well as child and youth programs at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences.

This brings the total amount raised through the annual event to $6.8 million over the past two decades.

“Once again, the local community has stepped up to support children and youth in Durham Region,” said Regional Chair John Henry. “I want to thank everyone involved in making this year’s tournament a success. It couldn’t be done without the support and generosity of our sponsors and the hard work and dedication of the tournament organizers.”
