Residents are being asked to show off their outdoor Christmas displays.
Oshawa is calling on the community to show some holiday spirit participating in the Outdoor Holiday Display Contest and by donating to the Feed the Need Durham holiday drive.
Community members are encouraged to enter the Outdoor Holiday Display Contest by submitting a photo at www.oshawa.ca/holidayspirit. Houses aglow with enchanting light displays, households showcasing charming decorations and animated storefront windows – all outdoor displays that can be seen by those passing by are eligible.
“What an interesting and creative new approach to the Christmas season – sharing both creativity and charity! Due to COVID, there are (unfortunately) many more people in need of support and compassion this year. Sharing both beautiful images and welcome food donations will serve to lift our community spirits,” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Chair of the Community Services Committee.
The contest runs Nov. 16 to Dec. 16, 2020. Six winners will be chosen at random to receive gift baskets from Tim Hortons valued at $100 each.
Participate in a holiday food drive and give where you can. Feed the Need Durham will be accepting donations of non-perishable food or personal care items between the hours of 12 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Nov. 16 to Dec. 16 inclusive. There will be signs and a donation bin set up at 371A Marwood Dr. in Oshawa.
“The coming holidays are always a giving season and while we have to celebrate differently this year, these great ways of celebrating and giving provide a wonderful opportunity to brighten our city,” said Councillor Derek Giberson, vice-chair of the Community Services Committee.
