Another chapter has been written in the legacy of Oshawa’s famed McLaughlin family at the city’s hospital.
Jocelyn Shaw, granddaughter of Col. R.S. McLaughlin, donated a painting to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre, which bears her grandfather’s name.
Shaw said she created the painting three years ago, and it encompasses an overarching theme of family love.
The R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre opened more than a decade ago, and has become one of the pre-eminent cancer centres in Ontario, with more than 124,000 patient visits annually.
Shaw is very proud of her family’s commitment to Oshawa and Lakeridge Health.
“This hospital has always been an important cause for my family and I am touched that the Cancer Centre has helped so many families over the last decade,” she said. “I hope my art will contribute to the improved aesthetic and atmosphere of the Cancer Centre and am excited to see how these new changes come to life around it.”
Major renovations are underway at the centre, including the expanded rapid response oncology clinic.
The clinic is now eight times its original size, and officially took over its new space this week.
Other completed upgrades include a new retail pharmacy.
Still underway is a compounding area for the pharmacy, revamped patient waiting areas, new exam rooms, renovated lab space and feature walls.
