One dead following crash in north Oshawa

One person is dead following a crash in the morning hours of Dec. 8 in north Oshawa.

A 49-year-old Oshawa woman was killed after her car collided with a fully-loaded dump truck at intersection of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road.

According to DRPS, witnesses report the collision occurred when the sedan made a left turn to go west onto Winchester Road and was struck by the southbound dump truck.  Both vehicles left the roadway, colliding with a traffic standard and some hydro wires, causing a power outage in the area.

The 58-year-old driver of the dump truck managed to flee before the cab of the dump truck was engulfed in flames and sustained only minor injuries.  The driver of the sedan succumbed to injuries she sustained as a result of the collision and passed away at the scene. Her name has not being released.

The road was closed for several hours while members of the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the collision.
