More local talent showcased at OMAs

Oshawa’s ZAFTIG was named Emerging Band of the Year at the Oshawa Music Awards (OMAs).

Hundreds of music fans joined the virtual celebration this past weekend.

ZAFTIG is an experimental rock trio that combines elements of garage, progressive, and psychedelic rock. They are known for their use of flutes, synthesizers, and complex drumming patterns.

In June 2019, they released their debut EP, Flight of the Migos, and embarked on their first tour of the east coast.

This marks the third week in an online event that will take place every Saturday at 7 p.m. until the end of May, announcing one-to-two award categories each week.

The winner for Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame will be announced on April 25, Music Teacher of the Year on May 2, Artist or Band of the Year on May 9, and the announcement for Best Songwriter(s) will take place on May 16. Finally, Durham Song of the Year will be announced in the final show on May 23.
