Meeting to address incinerator increase

The public has another chance to raise their opinions on a potential capacity increase at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC).

Durham and York Regions are proposing to increase the processing capacity of the DYEC from 140,000 tonnes to 160,000 tonnes per year.

The facility does not require any physical modifications to accommodate the increase.

The regions are currently completing an environmental screening process, which is subject to approval under the Waste Management Projects Regulation of the Environmental Assessment Act.

A public information event will be held at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex at 2440 Durham Regional Highway 2 in Bowmanville on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Representatives from the project’s study team will be present to provide information and answer questions.

For those unable to attend, information will be available online at durham.ca/DYEC160k and questions can be submitted to info@durhamyorkwaste.ca
