‘Kars’ taking over King Street Aug. 24

More than 400 classic vehicles expected for event

The weekend of Aug. 24 to 26 will be all about cars in Oshawa.

In addition to the 25th annual Autofest at Lakeview Park, the Downtown Oshawa BIA will host its annual Kars on King on Friday, Aug. 24

The streets of the city’s downtown will be transformed into a showcase of more than 400 classic cars, some local while other participants travel from across Canada and the U.S.

There is an emphasis on the word “classic”, as Kars on King features only models from 1987 and older.

The BIA just held its successful Bikes on Bond event, and BIA executive director Garth Johns estimates the Kars on King will draw three times as many people to the downtown area.

King Street will be closed off from Centre Street North to Mary Street North, with Simcoe Street being closed off from William Street to Athol Street. Sections of Celina, Albert and Ontario streets will be closed off as well.

Johns says this is a family-friendly event with a “Touch-A-Truck” event at the Generals Motors Centre featuring fire trucks and EMS vehicles.

New this year, between 40 to 50 tuner cars will be on display at Memorial Park.

There will also be live entertainment from Pauly and The Good Fellas.

Admission to Kars on King is free. For more information visit, downtownoshawa.ca/kars-on-king or call 905-576-7606.
