In-flight training should be stopped during stay-at-home order

Dear Editor,

It has come to my attention that in-flight training, wherein physical distancing in a cockpit is not possible, has been allowed to continue despite the provincial stay-at-home order. I understand that airports are exempt under the provincial order, but it is absolutely inexcusable that flight schools are allowed to hold in-flight lessons when flight simulators and virtual classes for non-flight learning are readily available. The provincial exemption for airports is to allow for necessary travel.

Many of us are working remotely, practicing physical distancing, only going out for essentials to prevent community spread, yet the City’s elected representatives are using the provincial exemption of airports as a loophole to allow flying instructors to sit side-by-each with one student after the next.

At this critical time for community health, all in-flight training should be stopped immediately until the provincial order is lifted!
