Handgun seized during traffic stop
A traffic stop of a suspected impaired driver in Oshawa led to the discovery of a loaded handgun.
On July 22 at approximately 12:03 a.m., calls were received from motorists about a suspected impaired driver being followed in the area of Bayly Street and Salem Road in Ajax.
The black Mercedes was observed travelling eastbound over 100 km/hr at times and also driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
Officers located the vehicle and also observed erratic driving behaviour. They stopped the vehicle on Bloor Street West at Stevenson Road South in Oshawa.
The driver was arrested for impaired driving by alcohol. Officers located a package of open marijuana on his person and also located a loaded, unregistered Glock handgun in the console between the two front seats.
A 27-year-old man of Weekes Drive in Ajax is facing nine charges, including impaired operation, over 80 mg and unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm.
