Durham College has been named as one of the GTA’s top employers for the ninth time.

Greater Toronto’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

According to a media release, the designation recognizes GTA employees “that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.”

Employers are judged on criteria including physical workplaces, work and social atmosphere, performance management, skills and training development, and community involvement.

“It’s an honour to be named one of Greater Toronto’s top employers for the ninth time,” said college president Don Lovisa. “A lot of effort goes into laying a foundation of support for our employees so they feel valued and empowered to do their best work. That in turn leads to our students’ success.”

According to the college’s profile on the Top Employers listing, it was selected for several reasons.

“Along with generous contributions to a defined benefit pension plan, Durham College offers retirement planning assistance to help employees prepare for the future – additionally, retirees can maintain their relationship with the college through a dedicated retiree association, which organizes a number of events through the year, including golf tournaments, barbecues, holiday luncheons and annual general meetings,” the entry reads.

Durham College was also complimented for providing many opportunities for staff to provide feedback and ideas.

It is also noted the college “encourages employees to lead active, healthy lives” by providing subsidized access to its Recreation and Wellness Centre, and massage therapy, acupuncture and nutritionist services.
