Catholic board, elementary school teachers reach deal

A tentative settlement has been reached between the Durham Catholic District School Board and the elementary teachers arm of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association.

The deal – of which the details are still confidential – was brought forward for ratification at the board’s latest meeting.

“I am pleased that our elementary teachers worked diligently with the board to develop creative solutions throughout this bargaining process while maintaining our focus on student achievement and putting the needs of our students first,” Theresa Corless, the chair of the board, states in a news release.

“This was a long and difficult round of bargaining that nevertheless has led to a fair local agreement that will meet the needs of the elementary teachers in Durham,” adds Melissa Cowen, the president of the association’s Durham Elementary Unit.
