Barricaded man surrenders after standoff

An Oshawa man surrendered peacefully after stabbing a family member and then barricading himself in the home for more than three hours.

On Sunday, March 22, 2020, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were called to a stabbing incident at a residence in the Phillip Murray Avenue and Park Road South area of Oshawa.

A 21-year-old male stabbed a family member during an altercation in the home. The male victim then left the residence and was taken to hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Officers surrounded the home and made efforts to contact the suspect and have him surrender peacefully. At approximately 7 p.m. he surrendered and was taken for a mental health assessment. Officers located a pellet gun and knife.

The 21-year-old male will be charged with assault cause bodily harm, possession of weapons dangerous, mischief under $5000, and fail to comply with probation order.
