Woman charged with defrauding craft show vendors

A Whitby woman was arrested after allegedly defrauding several vendors in a fraudulent craft show in Oshawa.

In June 2018, three victims contacted Durham Police to report they were victims of fraud. The three individuals had all arranged to rent space at a craft show which was to be held at a venue in Oshawa. The proceeds were being donated to a local charity.

The three vendors forwarded their booth deposit fees. The individuals attended the venue and discovered no event was scheduled. Further investigation revealed the existence of two additional victims.

A 33-year-old woman of Bayview Avenue in Whitby was arrested and charged with five counts of fraud under $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. She was released on a promise to appear.

The accused used an alias of Emily Turner during her fraudulent transactions.
