Value of Oshawa building permits nearly triples
With the warmer months comes more construction, and that is especially true in the Oshawa area.
According to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, 391 building permits for residential dwellings in the Oshawa census metropolitan area – which also includes Whitby and Clarington – were issued in April, well above the previous month’s 151. The value of April’s permits comes in at $126.9 million, nearly triple that of March’s $42.8 million.
The vast majority of the Oshawa CMA’s permits were issued for single dwellings, accounting for 276 permits.
Across the country, the value of residential permits dropped 1.8 per cent, amounting to $4.3 billion. According to Statistics Canada, while there was a gain in single family dwellings, it was offset by the loss in the multi-family dwelling sector.
