Union attacks on Ford don’t speak for all workers
Dear Editor,
I imagine many unionized workers in Ontario who voted about 18 months ago for the Ford government are fed up with seeing and hearing every time they turn on a radio or TV, hearing the same Ford bashing commercials over and over again, especially when they know they are untrue. Even worse when they know they helped pay for all these hate-filled attacks with their union dues.
How many millions of dollars are squandered on these ads already, and the next election in this province is still about two-and-a-half years away.
There should be more protection for workers’ rights as far as union dues management goes.
It appears that it is just for the pleasure of the top union bureaucrats to spend at any time, on attack ads on anything conservative, no matter how many of the members that actually filled this war chest with cash actually voted Conservative to begin with, and I am certain there are many that do.
They are certainly not all people that actually want to bankrupt the province, and kill the golden goose with never ending, unaffordable demands.
The union hierarchy seldom takes a reasonable approach, and weighs both sides of the argument, to reach a satisfactory resolution.
This province is in bad financial shape after 15 years of Liberal mismanagement, and the government caving to every union demand and at least once, even going above and beyond what was being demanded, just to get reelected!
We are all citizens and mostly taxpayers. Whether we are unionized public sector workers or not, we stand to suffer any consequences caused by bankruptcy at the end of this long downhill slide, if no common sense ever prevails.
