Colin Cymbalista and Tyler Robichaud of the 16U Oshawa Legionaires have been named to the Canadian Sophomore Team playing in the Oklahoma Sunbelt Classic tournament.
Cymbalista, a hard hitting catcher led the Legionaires in RBIs during the team’s Spring Training trip in March by driving in nine runs in eight games. The Pickering native will be counted as a run producer in the middle of the Legionaires’ lineup this season.
Robichaud, a right handed pitcher and outfielder, has been named the team’s Opening Day Starter. He has been an anchor for the Legionaires’ pitching staff. He has played all age groups in the Baseball Oshawa program, and has been an important bat at the top of the Legionaires’ lineup.
“We had four players tryout for this team. I’m really proud of all of them. They represented themselves extremely well. This is a great opportunity for Colin and Tyler to showcase their abilities and compare themselves against the best players in their age group in North America,” said 16U head coach, Daryl Macklem.
Jacob Miller, of the Oshawa 18U Legionaires, was also named to the team, making it three players from Baseball Oshawa teams playing in the tournament.
The Sunbelt Classic is one of the top showcase tournaments for high school players in North America and attracts several high profile college scouts every year.
