Trying thinking positive

Bill FoxBy Bill Fox/Columnist

In today’s world there are a lot of outside factors that sometimes concern me. Trump and new Cannabis laws are just two.

So in an effort to fight negativity, I have compiled a list of suggestions that all of us might find useful:

-Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will start having positive results.

-Stay away from negative people as they have a problem for every solution.

-Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid. The education system as it is today is not for everyone. I saw brilliant students who struggled within the confines of formal education, but once they found their niche, they excelled.

-“Insanity” is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  I once worked at a detox center with alcoholics. If they became violently ill after drinking, would you think they would cut back?

-See the light in the other and treat them as though that is all you see. As a retired teacher I insist that I never taught a bad student, just that some had their light dimmed by circumstances they had little control over.

-There may come a time when you have to choose between turning the page or closing the book. Financial security causes people to endure miserable jobs (and do miserably) whereas they might be great successes in a different field.

-There are two ways to live your life – one is as though nothing is a miracle and the other is as though everything is a miracle. I believe we are all miracles, starting with our birth and throughout our lives we are blessed with little miracles, but do we notice them?

-A clever person solves a problem while a wise person avoids it.

-Life is like riding a bike – to keep your balance you must keep on moving.

-The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.

-“I can” is 100 times more important than IQ.

-In the midst of every difficulty lies opportunity.

-Strive not to be a success but to be of value.

-The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.

-Logic will take you from point A to B while imagination will take you everywhere.

-One day you will thank yourself for never giving up.

-Struggle is just another word for growth.

-Remember to take care of yourself, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

-Anyone can know; the point is to understand.

-Don’t wait for the perfect moment, take the moment and make it perfect.

-The most wasted of all days is the one without laughter.

-You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

-What lies behind you and what lies in front of you pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

-Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.

-Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.

-Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.
-Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.
-If at first you don’t succeed, you’re normal.
-If you’re never wrong, then what have you got to learn?
-Don’t go through life – grow through life.
