Trail Committee requesting funds

With budget season soon to get underway, the Durham Trail Coordinating Committee is calling on council to throw some money its way to help maintain a cross-country trail network.

In a resolution passed on to the committee of the whole’s Oct. 5 meeting, the committee is requesting $10,000 to go towards the maintenance of the portion of the TransCanada Trail that goes through Durham Region.

Built in 1992, the trail is the longest in the world, stretching more than 20,000 kilometres between the country’s three ocean boundaries. When completed – the group in charge of the project has given itself until next year, the country’s 150th birthday – the trail will be 24,000 kilometres long.
