Toronto couple accused of using fake credit cards
Two people from Toronto have been arrested after purchasing lottery tickets and hotel rooms with fraudulent credit cards.
According to Durham police, in early October, the suspects attended a hotel on Champlain Avenue in Oshawa and booked a hotel room with a fraudulent credit card. The suspects later attended a convenience store on Old Kingston Road in Toronto and bought numerous lottery tickets with the same credit card.
Further investigation by Durham police’s financial crimes unit also revealed other similar criminal activity from August to October across the GTA.
A 38-year-old woman of no fixed address and 38-year-old Toronto man face a combined 25 charges including: fraud under $5,000; possession of property obtained by crime; and unauthorized use of credit cards. They were held for a bail hearing.
Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims of lottery ticket frauds in Durham Region. Anyone who has been a victim who hasn’t reported the incident to police is urged to contact investigators.
