Threats to court staff lead to charges

An Oshawa man is facing charges after a justice of the peace and a prosecutor were threatened.

Police were called to a legal clinic on Simcoe Street North in Oshawa at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 for a threatening call. According to police, a male entered the clinic and threatened a justice of the peace and a prosecutor he had faced earlier in the day in traffic court. The suspect left the clinic before police arrived.

In response, extra security measures were put in places at the provincial offences court in Whitby while police searched for the suspect.

The suspect was located and arrested at his residence shortly before 6 p.m. that evening.

A 50-year-old male of Albert Street in Oshawa has been charged with uttering threats, engaging in conduct to impede performance of justice duties and failure to comply with a probation order in connection with this incident.
