A teen wanted in connection with a jewelry theft in Oshawa, as well as a robbery in Ajax, has been arrested.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, Durham police responded to a home on Lankester Lane in Ajax for a break and enter. A witness at the scene said a male attempted to get into a neighbours home after breaking a window, but fled when he realized he was seen. Three suspects were seen running from the area.
Police chased two of the male suspects on foot and, with the assistance of the DRPS K-9 Unit, were able to arrest both after a lengthy pursuit over fences and through school yards.
One of the suspects was recognized by an officer, noting he was connected to a theft in Oshawa the week before. According to police, two males had been caught on surveillance stealing jewelry from Cash Connections on King Street West. A pellet gun seized from the suspect’s backpack was later connected to a robbery of an Ajax Burger King.
A 15-year-old Ajax male has been charged with robbery with a weapon, wearing a disguise while committing an offence, possession of a dangerous weapon, using imitation firearms when committing an offence and theft under $5,000 in connection with the last two offences.
Police say the break and enter is still under investigation, but anticipate charges will be filed.
