Studnicka named to U18 roster

Oshawa Generals fans may recognize a familar face on this year’s Team Canada U18 World Championship roster.

Gens rookie Jack Studnicka was named to the team that began competition in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup on Aug. 8. The tournament is being held in the Czech Republic and Bratislava until Aug. 13, where Canada will be looking to secure a ninth straight title.

The 17-year-old Studnicka is among a collection of Ontario Hockey League players on the roster, including Owen Tippett from the Mississauga Stealheads, Evan Bouchard from the Memorial-Cup-winning London Knights and Elijah Roberts of the Kitchener Rangers.

The international competition will be nothing new to Studnicka, who competed in the U17 World Hockey Challenge last year, where he netted five points in six games.
