Stolen car rams cruiser

An Oshawa woman is facing charges after a police cruiser was rammed by a stolen car.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, officers from Central East Division observed a Kia Soul with no taillights traveling on Centre Street South in Oshawa. The officers followed it into a parking lot at Simcoe Street South and Albany Avenue and parked behind it after it stopped. The officers recognized the female driver as a suspended driver and told her she was going to be arrested. She then restarted the car and reversed into the parked cruiser.

Both officers had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, but were not injured. The Kia accelerated sped out of the parking lot. The car, which was later reported stolen by a person known to the female, was not located.

At 10:20 a.m., the damaged car was located in the area of Ritson Road North and Coldstream Drive in Oshawa and the suspect was arrested without further incident nearby.

A 28-year-old woman of no fixed address in Oshawa is charged with 11 offences, including dangerous driving, escaping lawful custody and taking motor vehicle without consent.
