The Ontario Liberals have found their candidate for the Oshawa riding in the upcoming provincial election.
Makini Smith, an internationally published author, and women’s advocate was named as the party’s local candidate earlier this month.
Smith will square off against incumbent NDP MPP Jennifer French, Progressive Conservative candidate and current Oshawa city and regional councillor Bob Chapman and Libertarian Party candidate Brett Van Ginkel.
In addition to her career as a writer and motivational speaker, Smith works with the Proctor Gallagher Institute and volunteers at the Massey Centre for Women in Toronto.
She was named as a national role model by the Black Canadian Awards in 2015 and was a featured author in Indigo Canada’s International Women’s Day events the same year.
The Seneca College graduate is a mother of three children.
The Oshawa riding will feature new parameters in the 2018 election, bounded by Taunton Road to the north, Thornton Road to the west, Townline Road to the east and Lake Ontario to the south.
