An Oshawa man is facing numerous charges after a routine traffic stop in Whitby turned up a gun, ammo and drugs.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, Durham police conducted a routine traffic stop in Whitby. According to police, as a result of the stop, investigators found a semi-automatic 9mm firearm, ammunition and cocaine.

A 23-year-old male of Simcoe Street North in Oshawa has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine), careless handling of a firearm, careless handling of ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of weapon obtained by crime, tampering with serial number of firearm, possession of firearm knowing serial number tampered and using a plate not authorized for a motor vehicle.
